All clinics within the Macarthur Veterinary Group are equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical facilities and technology to enable us to provide the highest standards in veterinary care and the management of your pet’s health.
Our team is qualified and equipped to manage even the most complicated medical and surgical cases. For very complex cases requiring specialist care we may refer your pet to registered specialist veterinarians.
Macarthur Veterinary Group has a state of the art in-house laboratories in each of our clinics. We are able to run a range of haematological and biochemical tests and have the results available for our veterinarians within minutes. These tests provide valuable information and can allow our veterinarians to rapidly identify any abnormalities and diagnose your pet’s condition promptly. For some more specialised tests such as drug monitoring, endocrine function testing and histopathology, we send samples to an external veterinary pathology laboratory. Pre-anaesthetic blood testing is done on site.

Macarthur Veterinary Group has recently installed brand new digital x-ray machines in each clinic. This meanswe can very quickly take high quality diagnostic radiographs of our patients whether they are big or small. For the safety of your pet and our staff, sedation or general anaesthesia may be required to facilitate taking radiographs.
At Macarthur Veterinary Group, we are fortunate to employ the services of one of Australia's leading radiologists, Dr. Robert Nicholl, Veterinary Radiology and Ultrasound Specialist. Dr. Nicholl is able to perform ultrasounds and review x-rays. This not only allows continuing education for our Vets but also means that our patients benefit from a specialist opinion on their x-rays.
Ultrasound imaging is based on the same principles involved in the sonar used by bats or ships at sea. As the sound passes through the body, echoes are produced that can be used to identify how far away an object is, how large it is, its shape and its consistency (fluid, solid or mixed). As the sound echoes from the body's fluids and tissues the strength and character of the reflected waves are recorded. These echoes are instantly measured and displayed by a computer, which in turn creates a real-time picture on the monitor. The "live" images of the examination may be "frozen" to capture a still image.
As a diagnostic tool, ultrasound has a wide variety of uses in veterinary medicine, including:
Examining many of the body's internal organs, including the heart, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, prostate, adrenal glands and urinary bladder. Since ultrasound emits no x-rays, it is very safe. There are no known risks or side effects associated with diagnostic ultrasound.
The benefits of ultrasound include:
An endoscopy is a procedure in which a veterinarian places a lighted tube-like instrument into a natural body opening such as the mouth. The instrument has a video camera for viewing with a high degree of precision and magnification. It can be used to take still pictures of abnormalities for review and documentation in the medical record. Instruments can also be passed thorough the tube to take specimens for further analysis. Other instruments such as snares and balloons can be used to remove foreign bodies or treat abnormalities that are seen.
We commonly use Endoscopy as an alternative to surgery to examine and obtain samples from the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, urinary bladder and nasal cavity. It is also used to non-surgically remove swallowed foreign bodies from the GI tract.
Having fully equipped surgical suites at each clinic enables us to offer a diverse range of surgical options. Each suit incorporates infusion pumps, modern anaesthesia equipment, heart and respiration rate monitors as well as blood oxygen level monitors. Our senior veterinarians have orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical equipment, including full orthopaedic kit with specialised equipment including an oscillating bone saw, as well as the necessary skills to carry out complex fracture repairs.
From plating broken bones to the removal of large internal tumours, we have the capability to give your pet the best possible outcome.
